Interesting Facts About Apollo Beach. The city was originally used for farming and grazing by the Dickman family and was largely considered uninhabitable due to low elevation and overgrown mangrove trees. However, in the 1930’s, Paul Dickman conceived of the idea for a waterfront community. After multiple sales and false starts, the Corr family developed the land, built homes and created a neighborhood. Against many odds the family continued to develop the area, which included donating land for parks, schools and nature preserves. Thomas Corr later founded a bank, created a chamber of commerce and established local festivals. Eventually his work culminated in a thriving community about halfway between Tampa and Bradenton that enjoys fishing year-round, boating and many other water activities. Apollo Beach, Florida real estate is now considered one of the more prestigious communities in the Tampa Bay area. Apollo Beach has something for everyone with gated neighborhoods, golf course communities, and waterfront properties. Condos and town homes can also be found along the waterway.
